 Information Age Exhibition

Exciting new permanent exhibition about information technology. It's beginnings right up to the present day.

Opened by the Queen on 24th October 2014 this new exhibition brings together communication machinery from it's infancy and includes revolutionary machines such as the computer used by Sir Bernards-Lee the inventor of the Internet.

A fascinating walk through 200 years of technology.

Oramics to Electronica: 

Revealing Histories of Electronic Music

Until Tuesday 31 December 13 

Discover the history of electronic music from the 1950s until today. 

It shows iconic instruments alongside home-built synthesisers and one-off inventions. New instruments such as synthesisers and samplers not only changed the sounds musicians could make, but also influenced the way they composed and performed their music.

Ariel 1

Fifty years on 26 April 1962, Britain launched Ariel-1, the first international satellite. It was the beginning of the UK's satellite sector.

To mark the anniversary a new display in the science museum in London consists of scale models of the Ariel 1 and Ariel 4 satellites as well as a flight spare of the Ariel 5 cosmic X-ray detector.

Free Guided Tours

There are free tours of some of the museums galleries almost every day.  There are four tours available, these are:

  • Exploring Space gallery
  • Making the modern world
  • Flight Gallery tour

Visit the information desk when you arrive to find out which tour are available on the day you visit and to book your place as numbers are limited.

I always make a point of taking a museums free tour as it really does give you so much more from your visit.
